Robert Lewandowski leads a lengthy list of injury absentees for Bayern Munich as they look to remain on course for a record-extending ninth consecutive Bundesliga crown with victory over Union Berlin on Saturday (kick-off: 2.30pm BST).

Lewandowski was careering towards Gerd Müller's single-season record of 40 goals before picking up a knee injury on international duty with Poland. Even in his absence, Bayern took care of business against nearest challengers RB Leipzig last Saturday, with Thomas Müller teeing up Leon Goretzka for what proved to be the winner in a 1-0 victory. Hansi Flick's side have opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the table, but Lewandowski has been joined in the treatment room by Goretzka, Niklas Süle and, latterly, Lucas Hernandez. Add in Alphonso Davies' suspensions and the fact that Bayern have the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, and Flick will be forced to rotate his side to some degree. Javi Martinez and Jamal Musiala are among those who could be handed rare starts, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will continue to lead the line in Lewandowski's stead.

While the title chase may be drawing to a close, Union are in the middle of a fierce battle for European qualification. Die Eisernen secured a 1-1 draw with Berlin city rivals Hertha last time out, which leaves them seventh in the table, level on 39 points alongside VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach in eighth and ninth respectively. There's a four-point gap ahead of Union to Bayer Leverkusen, who currently sit in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualification spot. It means that the capital club will be motivated to face a Bayern side that they held to a point in their meeting earlier this season. With Taiwo Awoniyi, Sheraldo Becker and Anthony Ujah all still sidelined, Petar Musa should continue in attack alongside Max Kruse. Urs Fischer could be inclined to return to a four-man defence away to Bayern - he used the same system in holding them to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture - with Nico Schlotterbeck the most likely to make way.

Bayern have won each of their past five Bundesliga matches, scoring 17 times in the process at an average of 3.4 goals a game.

Flick's side are still unbeaten in all competitions at the Allianz Arena this term (P18, W15, D3).

The champions have scored at least once in each of their last 62 competitive games - a new club record. They last time they failed to score was in the goalless draw with Leipzig on 9 February 2020.

Manuel Neuer (432) and Christian Genter (423) are the two highest Bundesliga appearance makers in the league. Gentner has lost 20 of his 25 Bundesliga games against Bayern, with only Richard Golz (21) suffering more defeats against the record champions.

Union picked up their first league point against Bayern the last time the two met - a 1-1 draw on Matchday 11 - and are one of only two teams, alongside Gladbach, to have not been beaten by the league leaders this season.

Top-scorer Max Kruse has scored four of his 10 league goals across the last five matchdays.
